CBWCHC Recognizes its IT Department
The Information Technology (IT) Department maintains the intricate web of technological infrastructure, functionality, and security that keeps the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center (CBWCHC) running seamlessly. From electronic health records to web portals and desktop workstations, the IT Department builds, implements, standardizes, and supports hardware and software throughout the Health Center. Their department has 16 team members of highly trained professionals, including System and Network Administrators, IT Analysists and Technicians, and others with specialized roles.
“Our IT Department ensures that everything runs smoothly and responsively,” said Kaushal Challa, CEO of the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center. “They keep health information safe and business tools working seamlessly. Their efforts make sure that our clinical and administrative teams can focus on our mission of providing high-quality and affordable health care. And when there’s an unexpected problem or an outage, our IT colleagues always work quickly and diligently to get things restored. I truly admire their dedication.”
Kai Yeung, the Director of IT, answered some questions to help others understand his department’s crucial role in the Health Center’s operations.
How does the IT Department contribute to the Health Center’s mission to provide high-quality and affordable health care to all?
Kai: We provide and maintain the infrastructure for software and services to run smoothly to optimize efficiency. Software like Electronic Health Records (EHR), RingCentral, email, and the Microsoft Office suite are essential for enabling our staff to perform their job functions. Our team ensures the availability and operability of these tools. We also offer robust reporting capabilities to support leadership in making critical strategic decisions.
What makes you most proud about your department’s work?
Kai: After working at the Health Center for more than 25 years, I am most proud of the teamwork within our department, drawing from the collective knowledge and experience of each member. Our dedication to our work further enhances this collaborative environment.
What are some of the challenges you face in your position?
Kai: The cybersecurity landscape is dynamic and ever-changing, which means we have to continually learn and improve in order to stay ahead of any potential threats.
As the Health Center grows, there are a growing number of IT components that we need to manage. We always have an eye on scaling our capabilities to meet the evolving needs of the Health Center.
The healthcare IT market is incredibly competitive—so as a leader, I constantly challenge myself to foster an environment that is rewarding and fulfilling to the people on my team.
What do you like most about working for the Health Center?
Kai: Working with all my colleagues on the CBWCHC staff is truly a privilege. Whether within my team or with peers in other departments, understanding their needs and being able to support their important work brings me a strong sense of fulfillment and motivates me to consistently contribute my best.
What is one thing about your department that you’d like people to know?
Kai: I like reminding my colleagues that while we might not have the answers to every IT-related question right away, we are committed to doing our best to learn, understand, and resolve issues to provide the most effective support for them.
