Meet the 2024 Project AHEAD Interns
Project AHEAD (Asian Health Education and Development) is a nine-week internship program administered by the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center. It provides firsthand training and experience to undergraduate students and recent graduates who are interested in pursuing a career in health care. This program helps them learn more about the health issues affecting Asian American communities, both now and in the past.
The Project AHEAD 2024 cohort will continue the tradition of conducting a community health project. They will study how patients feel about the care they get, focusing on how well the Health Center meets their different cultural needs. This project will help us understand how patients and staff members view our services and how we can improve them to provide better care for everyone.

Anna Ni
Anna Ni is a rising junior at the University of Pennsylvania, pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing with a minor in health care services management. She is passionate about exploring various aspects of health care beyond direct patient care that influences patient experience and community health outcomes, such as health care policies, innovations, management, and beyond. After graduation, Anna aspires to become an adult gerontology primary care nurse practitioner, hoping to improve the standard of living for the grandparents in her community.

His interest in health care stemmed from his experience as an immigrant navigating the U.S. health care system. Early on, he understood the challenges caused by language, cultural barriers, and other social determinants of health. After graduation, Bishesh hopes to attend medical school and become a culturally competent health care advocate.

Having witnessed disparities in health care access, he wishes to educate patients about health insurance options and how to access affordable care. Brian hopes to pursue a career as a physician, serving rural and underserved communities.

After graduation, Cindy hopes to pursue a doctorate degree in clinical psychology and work in the health care setting, serving underrepresented youth and working towards de-stigmatizing the conversation about mental health.

Fanny Zheng is a rising junior at Stony Brook University, majoring in biology and minoring in health, medicine, and society. She is passionate about advocacy work and community service. As a former Community Health Services intern at the Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC), she advocated for the AAPI community and climate change by creating social media content and worked with other community-based organizations to combat anti-Asian hate during the COVID-19 pandemic. Fanny intends to pursue a career in health care to continue to give back to her community.

He is a certified New York state EMT-B, the secretary of Vassar College EMS, and recently joined the Little Neck-Douglaston Community Ambulance Corps. Gordon is passionate about improving access to health care for low-income and undocumented communities—especially mental health resources. He plans to pursue a medical degree and Master of Public Health degree and go into primary care to open a community health center, advocating for improvements in the health care system to reduce the health disparities in underserved communities.

After graduation, Minchae will continue her studies in public health at Brown by pursuing a master’s degree in epidemiology. She is eager to learn more about Asian American health at a federally qualified community health center.
