During this Healthcare HR Professionals Week (March 13-17), the Health Center recognizes HR staff for their important role across all levels of care.

Kaushal Challa, CEO of the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center, shares that “The talent and dedication of our people are what makes us so special and helps us accomplish great things year after year.  I’m grateful for our Human Resources team that works hard to make sure that we attract, retain, and support our workforce.  I thank Lynn and Esther for their leadership and unwavering commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive workplace.  I am incredibly grateful for the entire HR staff’s contributions to our organization’s success.”

We asked CBWCHC Human Resources Director, Esther Silver, about the work of the HR department and its’ role within the organization.

CBWCHC: What are you most proud about your team?

Esther: We continue to innovate and look for efficient solutions to help staff and managers. We are always looking for ways to streamline processes.  With the IT Department’s innovation, we created the HR Portal which provides staff with one place to track and complete their compliance requirements. The portal is also used by supervisors to submit status changes for approval, which are all now completed electronically.

CBWCHC: What do you like most about working for the Health Center?

Esther: It’s very satisfying to work for an organization that is mission-driven.  The work of the Health Center is vital to the community and the population that we serve. Having grown up with immigrant parents, I know how hard it is to access and utilize the healthcare system.  The Health Center is also dedicated to improving our workforce to create training and opportunities.

CBWCHC: What do you say to encourage people to join our Health Center?

Esther: It’s a collaborative environment that fosters teamwork and encourages growth. We maintain competitive salaries and benefits and hope people can find their true calling serving the community in an impactful way at one of our several job openings across our 6 sites in Lower Manhattan and Queens.
